Dating house nails

Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again when I paint it this time. My name is Cookie and I am the co-founder of Texas Nail House.I am getting ready to paint the outdoor trim on my 1840's house and have a question.Every nail head is showing through the old paint with rust. Thus, we need to extend the manufacturing date back some 30 years with the caveat that the manufacturing date range begins in the 1880s.By examining production figures for wire nails, a model is generated for dating sites built of machine cut nails. It seems they were widely used in railways, so not really relevant to period properties, but interesting I thought. er2010This booklet looked ideal until I realised it was American, so I don't know how applicable it would be for UK nails.Could be generally interesting though: dated a view things in my life but never nails!!

And what better way to enjoy your sacred space by giving it a little extra TLC?Usually wire nails are ascribed an 1850s beginning date, but that date is both too early and too late. While some wire nails were produced in 1819, no significant quantities were produced in the United States until the mid-1880s.This shape of nail had the benefit of four sharp edges on the shank which cut deep into timber and the tapered shank provided friction down its full length. The wood fibres would often swell if damp and bind round the nail making an extremely strong fixing.
