Essay on dating violence
Dating violence among teens is on the rise and is even prevalent in middle school.
The winning entry, “Cry for Help,” was submitted by a group of students from Somerville High School in Massachusetts.
Dating is not definite the same among all ages; however, 72 percent of 8th and 9th graders are dating. Legal clinics are also offered through Prevention Services at no cost.
Nearly 25 percent of 14 to 17 years old surveyed know at least one student who was a victim of dating violence (The Clothesline Project). Topics include: how to complete Family Law forms; Family Law procedures; and preventative safety measures.
In addition, one in three teenagers report knowing a friend or peer who has been “hit, punched, kicked, slapped, choked or physically hurt” by their dating partner.
Abusive relationships can occur in person and/or electronically with current or former dating partners.
