She was born to mother Jocelyn Hakim and a German father, whose name has not been shared with the public. May’s mother is of French-Turkish descent and an art teacher, who as a student paid artist-designer Malcolm Mc Laren £50 to marry her so that she could obtain citizenship.
The marriage, which occurred in 1972 ended in divorce, cost Mc Laren's grandmother £2,000.
Suddenly she starts talking with a powerful, unleashed passion.

For education, Jodhi May attended Camden School for Girls and later went on to study at Wadham College, Oxford, from where she received a Masters in English.
Of her frequent trips to the cinema, she says, "What I love about it is that it's a very private space that doesn't require you to be particularly cerebral."May lives alone in north London without a television - an admission which appears to alarm her. "I have a monitor and I watch films on the monitor.
